Rock music is now only really a nostalgia re-packaging industry for… er… the 'increasingly-more mature' adult (who seem to rather fervidly do their utmost to deny the fact of their aging) rather its traditional market of an adolescent fantasy of imagined authenticity. Therefore, in order to keep sales levels up, it has become essential to rewrite many - of what the record industry likes to call - 'classic' songs in order for them to retain their appeal to this newly emerging audience demographic.
Work on this has already begun, and so, today, the record companies have - in a joint statement - published a list of several of these re-worked songs that will be released over the coming weeks in time for the pre-Christmas sales rush.
The re-worked songs scheduled for release so far are:
Waiting For My Gran - Velvet Underground
I'm A Gran - Bo Diddley
Gran Of Constant Sorrow - Bob Dylan
Walk Like A Gran - Bruce Springsteen
Grannish Boy - Muddy Waters
Solitary Gran - Neil Diamond
Gran On The Moon - R.E.M.
Gran Of The World - Fleetwood Mac
Street Fighting Gran - Rolling Stones
This Charming Gran - The Smiths
(White Gran) In Hammersmith Palias - The Clash
Sharp Dressed Gran - ZZ Top
Southern Gran - Neil Young
Hoochie Coochie Gran - Muddy Waters
The Gran Who Sold The World - David Bowie
