Never Cry Again
This is how she walks this land
long dress blowing back in the wind
head up, despite the rain that falls
washing her long hair back
and running in rivers down her cheeks
as though she has cried forever.
But she promised herself never
would she ever cry again
even if her world falls apart again.
She is not going to let those cold hands
take her ever again or lie there
to watch him walk away and not return.
Even though she waits at her window
for a sight of his familiar homecoming
she knows so much better now
how such promises as he made
can be blown away by the wind
and washed away by the rain.
