The Child into the World
Ready to be grasped, and held there
in the open palm of one calm
understanding hand, like the patient,
safe hand of a mother, or father
taking the child out into the world
for the very first time. To see how high
growing goes and how far the distance
we have to walk down these roads,
before we can return to a place
we can understand as our home.
