Monday Poem: I Go With Regret

image

I Go With Regret

I go with weary reluctance
And I go slowly – with regret.
I hope not to look back with longing
Leaving all we allowed ourselves behind.

I have good enough reasons to go
And I see how stories can be told
To turn this loss into one more victory.

I shall see the sun rise again over hills
As I go now to a far off distant place
To remember the art of forgetting,

And to look out from a high hill,
Back over this road I take away,
Back to where you will remain
As I set out to walk away
For just one more time of leaving.
